Mahendranagar, Feb 26: A doubles pair of Bidhan Adhikari and Prabin Thingthen of the Tribhuvan Army Club won the title in the ‘Dharmapashupati Memorial Open Badminton Tournament’.
They beat a double pair of Bibek Neupane and Manoj Bhaudar of Lapha Group of Butwal in the final at the Nepal police multipurpose hall in Dhangadhi.
Similarly, a doubles pair of Bishal Basnet and Prabin Singh of Pokhara and a pair of Dipak Rana and Ram Malla Thakuri of Kathmandu finished second runner-up.
The winner received Rs 121,000 in cash, a trophy and certificates, and the first runner-up Rs 71,000 in cash, a trophy and certificates. Likewise, the second runner-up got Rs51,000 in cash, said Rajendra Bam, treasurer of the organiser Police Public Badminton Club. It is said this tournament has the highest amount of prize money among all the badminton tournaments in the country.
Also in the above 45 years of age category, a doubles pair of Jayanta Shrestha and Anil Lakhe of Nepalgunj won the title in the Veteran Badminton Competition. The pair defeated a doubles pair of Bel Chhantyal and Karna BK of Bardaghat in the final.
Similarly, a doubles pair of Shailendra Shrestha and Birendra Bista and Keshab Bhatta and Bhojraj Bhatta finished second runner-up. The winner received Rs 51,000 in cash, a trophy and certificates, the first runner-up Rs 31,000 in cash, a trophy and certificates, and the second runner-up Rs 21,000, a trophy and certificates.
Likewise, a doubles pair of Ganesh Mishra and Sichha Raj Ojha of Dhangadhi defeated a pair of Kapil Bam and Kamandau Kathariya in the final under the ‘B’ Level Badminton Tournament, Sudurpaschim Province.
A doubles pair of Keshab Bhatta and Bhojraj Bhatta and Narendra Chand and Ganesh Kathayat became the second runner-up. The winner got Rs 31,000 in cash, a trophy and certificates, the first runner-up Rs 21,000, a trophy and certificates, and the second runner-up Rs 11,000, a trophy and certificates.
